A few things have happened in the last couple of months!

I visited Cleveland with my fiance and ran an impromptu 5K with his cousins, I’m proud that I can just “run a 5K’ and be able to finish it without much planning.  If I train ahead then I can maybe PR or something, but if someone just asks me about running 5K or a 3 mile run around the lake…I can just do it…which is so nice.

I’ve been training for the Minneapolis Duathlon which is coming up this Sunday, the 26th.  Then I’m following that up with the Women’ Rock 10K the following Saturday..I’m very excited to be rounding out my summer with these challenging races!

I’ve been back to getting used to riding long distances on my bike and its like old hat. My body remembers and loves doing it.  So, I’m very much looking forward to the 15 mile biking portion of the Duathlon this week! It is a little challenging to move from the bike to the 2nd run…your legs are just kinda stuck in the biking mode…and you already just ran 3 miles before the bike ride, too.

I’ve been practicing my transitions and while my 2nd runs have been slow, they are doable and I know I will finish the Du and be extremely proud!

Another kinda bummer item that happened last week is I lost my full time job.  I think that this is a good change for me, its scary not having a job, but I’m ready to move into a career in social media, web content production, copywriting, white papers, and/or community management. I’ve been seeing a bunch of opportunities pop up, but if any of you blog followers out there want to send a recommendation or referral my way, that would be fantastic!

I need to be able to work to support my healthy habits!! 🙂  Yes, running technically is free….but as serious runners know…I need to make sure I have good shoes, healthy fuel, and the right running clothes and necessary accessories.  I also want to be able to keep going to my personal trainer, she keeps me well rounded and my muscles willing and able to run and bike!

With the summer there have been many eating challenges for me. I feel like there are so many lovely, fresh, tempting foods out there in the summer that just more easily tempt me. There are also many more social gatherings! Lots more strategizing, planning, and preparing for challenging eating situations all summer. Sometimes is really hard to stay focused and afloat.

This summer I have maintained my Slimgenics loss, lots of ups and downs, but maintaining.  I have another 20ish pounds to lose though, I want and need to be done with the weight loss portion. I thought I was focused again and then losing my job didn’t help. I’m not eating to fill emotions, I know this….but I’m just at home and lazy. I need to do like what I did for work….quick, filling breakfast…snack…lunch…snack…dinner. Almost like I should pack myself a lunch in the morning even though I’m not going anywhere. Hmm, this sounds like a good idea that I thought of while I was typing to you guys…I might just do that! At least “plan” my lunch, I don’t have to put it in a bag…haha!

That’s about it for now, I’m very happy to be back to blogging and connecting with all of you!

Phew….glad that week is over..long weekend coming up, will include some running, weight lifting, sleeping in, dinner with my parents, cleaning and some..and I love the sound of this..doing NOTHING

I swear Slimgenics makes the weeks go by even faster….with meal planning and cooking in between everything else life has to offer. But as the weeks go by the weight goes down, too. I know I’m going to lose every week as I follow the plan, but I must let the time pass and I must follow the plan daily for it to work. No way to speed it up or anything…so go time go!

This week I was able to wear 3 items out of my “small clothes” bin to work…it made me feel so good! I lost another 1 lb this week but I think that’s because of girly stuffs and my body is just shifting around, which has gotta happen when you are losing weight quickly.  17 lbs down baby!

I wanted to show you guys a new dinner I cooked up tonight.  It was so savory and tasty, but fast, too. All of 15 minutes from start to finish!

Curry Green Beans and Broiled Tilapia

Meal for two

Curry Green Beans:

  • 1 steam bag (about 4 cups) of cooked green beans, drained
  • 4 TBS of minced onion flakes (soaked in a bit of water)
  • 3/4 TBS of curry powder
  • dash of salt
  1. Spray a pan with cooking spray and saute the soaked onion flakes for a few minutes on their own
  2. Add the curry powder and saute together for about 3 minutes.
  3. Finally add the cooked green beans and a bit of salt. You might add a maximum of 2 TBS of water so it won’t burn, but you probably won’t need it.  Saute all together another 5 minutes.

Broiled Tilapia

  • 12 ozs (two 6ish oz filets) of tilapia (or any other white fish like orange roughy)
  • dash of paprika
  • dash of dill
  • dash of salt
  1. Spray a broiling pan with cooking spray.
  2. Place the filets on the pan and sprinkle with spices…I like more dill than paprika personally.
  3. Broil for about 6 minutes…check halfway and maybe turn the pan around.
  4. Fish should be flaky, but not dry or fried, white through out and no clear spots

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Let me know if you try the recipes and if you like them! For Slimgenics this dinner was 2 vegetable servings and 1 protein serving per peson

Hi folks!

Omigosh, besides my getting to know you I haven’t posted in awhile, that’s awful, so here’s my updates!

Weight/measurements:

I’m down 16 3/4 lbs!! I started Slimgenics on Jan 9th-ish so I’m into week 5, this is so awesome! I’m also completely out of Lane Bryant land. I can’t wear a stitch of clothing from there except a pair of khakis that I shrunk on purpose, heehee..and they are seriously giving me diaper butt, I refuse to buy new pants yet though!

This week I had two NSVs!  I pulled out a shirt that I haven’t been able to wear for 5 years..and even though 5 years ago I weighed about 15 lbs less, I’m way more fit now…and with the weight loss, it looked so awesome! I danced around the house..my boyfriend thought I was miss crazy, but he was so proud of me and so am I!  Also yesterday I was able to pull a shirt out of my “too small work clothes” bin…oooh yes yes yes! So happy!

Running:

I am halfway through my Running Room 5K class. We are doing 10 min x 1 min twice and then slowly adding on a 3rd set of running, this week its 5 mins.  I ran a bit over 2 miles on Saturday woohoo!

In general:

I kinda feel like my life is:  sleep, workout, work, make dinner, meal prep for the next day, sleep, workout..work…etc etc. But, the “meal prep” is shortening due to getting better on Sundays at making my weekly plan and getting faster at cooking and chopping, etc for the most part.  So I’m getting there 🙂  Our meals have been good and satisfying. My appetite is definitely shrinking, I find myself pushing food around my plate at dinner time…hah, I get such a limited amount of food that is so weird!

I’m finally feeling better, too..I felt like I was dealing with a cold or a headache or something for a whole month and now its all wearing off!

Well, I have to get dressed so I can go workout..hope everyone is doing well!

Finally, something is working!

I’m so happy that I found a program that works, its been one week so far…I’ve made three dinner recipes from my Slimgenics cook book, put together a week long meal plan that for the most part worked out well, but we did make last minute changes here and there. We found some recipes we absolutely love and some other meals that are going to no longer exist, hahaha!

I am learning that cooking meals at home, while taking some planning, is actually really satisfying. Eating meals that you took the time to prepare yourself makes the meal that much more tasty and filling. Its a weird concept, but so true!  We made two dishes this week that we both LOVED. Ryan’s favorite was Curried Chicken…I sauteed pieces of chicken breast then added sliced tomatoes and chopped green onions mixed together with yellow curry powder, parsley flakes and the Simgenics version of chicken noodle soup (any dry chicken noodle should work).  Oh man it was so good! My favorite meal this week was Hamburger Rice Casserole.  I browned ground sirloin with chopped mushrooms, chopped green onions and chopped celery. I poured that all into a baking dish and added in the Slimgenics version of dry creamy chicken noodle soup mix, with the water.  Baked it about 30 minutes until it all firmed up. Yum!

Some of the other foods we at this week were super good in season clementines, jazz apples, sauteed asparagus and “mashed potatoes.” Oh! Let me tell you about the potatoes!  We each used 1 serving of starch for this.  1 mashed together 1/2 baked potato (baked in the microwave) and 1/2 cup of cooked cauliflower each. (So 1 whole baked potato and 1 cup of cauliflower total) I mashed into it 2 TBS of light margarine and a bunch of garlic powder.  Soo good, skin on garlic mashed potatoes with added bulk of cauliflower was a pretty big serving and had hidden vegetables for the boyfriend 😉

So, what else went on this week? Oooh…yeah…I lost 7 lbs! Woohoo! I should lose 3-5 lbs every week, this week was more because its the first week and we did 3 days of “detox”, too…which is just at the beginning of the program.  I feel SO much better, too.  I don’t feel bloated, just “fat” but that’ll go away as the weeks go on, haha!  My skin is clearer from eating basic foods, no alcohol, no preservatives, lots of water. My mood is pretty boosted from just feeling good and healthy. The only time I’m kinda crabby is if I’m running late for dinner, but I’m hungry, haha!

I’m getting used to the amount of food, too.  Unlike Weight Watchers, where you get less points as you lose weight. On Slimgenics you eat the same amount of food the whole time, so obviously my body needs to get used to it.  Having the Herbal Slim appetite suppressants, the Slimgenics branded “Thermo Snacks” and “Thermo Boosts” to add in during my day and lots of water helps though 🙂 The only way you get more food is if you majorly increase your activity to like an hour or more a DAY…yeah..I exercise a lot but not that much 🙂

My exercise plans are going well, too. I’m still actively lifting 2x a week for 30 minutes with my trainers at LA Fitness and I’m doing a 5K running class with the Running Room. We meet on Saturdays for a lesson/tips for the 1st half hour and then the 2nd half of class we run together.  Our homework is doing two training runs during the week, which I’m also doing. So running 3x a week, plus maybe elliptical a 4th day and lifting. I say I’m a healthy active girl!  As the fat melts off my muscles will finally start showing!

My most difficult day this week was definitely Thursday. It was the 1st day of eating planned out foods on the regular plan (after 3 days of detox).  Also, Thursdays are my longest day…aka I get up at 6am…go lift weights and run, then work til 6pm, then finally get home.  Yup…long day. So long day and heavy exercise means HUNGRY!  I was feeling woozy as I drove home and called ahead to Ryan to have him start the oven and some of the cooking prep for the curried chicken.  I talked to a Slimgenics counselor about what happened on Friday and she was SUPER helpful. She reminded me that I can have a 3rd Thermo snack to replace my dairy as long as I use one of the higher calcium Thermo Snacks…we also structured a day out better where I have a bit more “bulk” in my AM/early afternoon meals so that I don’t feel so empty by late dinner time.  Another note on that day was that I could hardly finish my dinner..yep I went from STARVING to full pretty quickly….probably because of the late hour. So, dinners will be smaller on Thursdays with more snacks and filling stuff during the day to help stave off the extra hunger pangs from my workout, I think that makes sense!

Alright that has been quite the bit of babbling for today…I hope I shared enough info so you guys can get an idea of what I’m doing on the plan and how well its working!  I had a few questions through out the week about what it was and how I was doing! So there ya go! Feel free to ask me questions on Twitter and on here.

P.S. Slimgenics does not know I’m writing about them, they haven’t asked me to write about them, I’m not being compensated in any way, these are all my opinions, I’m just doing it cause its  working and I’m happy!

HUGS!

Went to weigh in today, day #2 and I’m down 2 lbs from yesterday. I’m still over my starting weight on My Fitness Pal which is why that total still says “0” but that should be changing by tomorrow.  Yes, during our first 2 weeks we have to go in as many days as possible. I will only be missing Thursdays due to getting out of the house earlier than they open and getting home after they close, uffdah Thursdays you are a long day. But I digress…

Today after weigh in, we had our orientation so we know what to eat starting Day 4 through the rest of our Weight Loss phase…which for me is 21 weeks.  Oh geez…let me tell you, kinda confusing and it’ll take some getting used to, but  in a few weeks meal planning shouldn’t be as hard as it was the first time for us today.

We don’t count calories on Slimgenics we count portions….and you can only have a certain number of portions of fat, milk, starch, protein, veggie and fruit a day. I get to have 1 fat, 1 milk, 2 starches, 2 proteins, 4 veggies and 2 fruits. Oh, and two thermo snacks. No more, no less. That’s kind of the hard part…its not the guideline, its the RULE.

In order for Ryan and I not to pull our hair out on a daily basis and be super confused on what to eat and also make sure everything gets balanced out and make sure we have what we need, we will be meal planning once a week..normally on Sundays…but since we start eating the normal plan on Thursday, we meal planned today after orientation.

We first went out and bought a white board with columns for each day of the week..split into breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner.  Its a tricky puzzle but we figured it out…this week we are mostly having Thermo Snacks for breakfast on weekdays, but eggs for breakfast on the weekend. Guess what happens if you have eggs for breakfast though? That’s one protein…so do you want to not have protein for lunch or not have protein for dinner? Hmmm…..but wait…Themo Snacks have protein..so you can actually have protein 4x a day, whoopee! There are other twists, too..for example, we get two starches a day, but you can trade those two starches for a thermo snack instead! Wheee!

Anyway, we have the rest of our week through Sunday all set up…on our whiteboard, it makes me feel less stressed out for sure!

We shopped at two stores today to get all stocked up on salt free herbs and spices, lots of veggies and a variety of meat including chicken, tilapia and turkey breasts (whoo they are BIG!)

We will figure out the planning thing as we get a hang of it!

The only thing that I don’t like, but I guess I understand their reasoning…is they LIMIT water! Yup no more than 100 ozs a day. If I’m still thirsty after finishing 100 ozs of water….I can have up to two cans of a diet clear soda, an unlimited amount of herbal tea or decaf coffee, or up to two cups of  regular coffee or tea.  They say too much water will wash out all the electrolytes and vitamins our bodies need to stay healthy during the weight loss phase. I dunno…I think if I’m really thirsty and all I want is water, I’m going to have more water. Sheesh.

Well, one more day of the detox plan…..time for bed, this planning has exhausted me..zzzzz….
