As you all know I’m a WW member now and wow, the program has gotten so full of helpful habits, tips & routines.

This month the routine is adding a fruit or vegetable to every meal.  I had to remind myself at first, but now I do it automatically. It might seem like a chore at first…but adding a banana, strawberries or a melon to breakfast; cherry tomatoes, an apple or oranges with lunch; or,some salad and cooked veggies with dinner has really made me feel fuller and more satisfied with my meals and snacks. I am actually now starting to crave certain veggies..like roasted brussels sprouts!

One habit I am SUPER proud of though is planning out my meals and points before I eat them.  This is a slow habit to build because I’m not a very good meal planner. But, knowing what I’m going to have for dinner…really helps me to stay on track all day. I’m looking forward to my yummy planned ahead dinner and I know what snacks/meals I can have during my work day and not feel guilty or worried about “fitting in” dinner.

Last night I made Steelhead trout. This fish tastes and looks exactly like salmon except it is more tender and has less fat/calories/points and the same amount of protein 🙂  By the way it was really easy, I just cooked it in a packet of foil in the oven at 375 for 15 minutes. It was PERFECT. (Oh, I put lemon juice, a couple sprays of olive oil, salt, pepper, onion powder and dill) It was a household favorite!

As part of my counting up points before I eat them, I had a Vietnamese take-out victory today. We went to a local, only open for lunch during the week, Vietnamese restaurant to pick up lunch for work today.  I ordered the chicken & vegetable stir fry with fried rice.   I already had my breakfast points in my tracker, I also have my homemade baked chicken fingers for dinner in there too, and then I put in the chicken & vegetable stir fry (2 cups).  After that…I saw how many points I had left for the day. Determined I wanted a snack with points this afternoon combined with my apple, so I took that out. Then, I saw how many points I had left and I MEASURED out 1/2 a cup of fried rice (I keep measuring cups at work!) and threw the rest away!!

Measured my fried rice!

Measured my fried rice!

Threw the rest away!

Wow, such an amazing experience. I’m proud of all my races…but seriously, A Duathlon…I truly feel like an athlete for the first time. I’m now super motivated to keep improving not only my running but my “athlete” status. I love Duathlons!

My friends from the Minneapolis Duathlon

So, here’s my results from Team Ortho:

Run1 Time: 37:55 Pace: 12:13 min/mi

TRN2 Time: 4:03

Biking in the Minneapolis Duathlon

I’m a little disturbed that I had myself running a lot faster on my Garmin, almost a PR, than the Team Ortho folks timed me chip time. One thing I noticed though, my chip time/gun time was the same when I switched back and forth between Team Ortho results, hmm. But I’m gonna go with my Garmin, fo sho! If I was trying to win a Team Ortho race I’d worry, but I’m not, I’m just there to do my best!

Not so bad for my first Duathlon ever! I rarely run 10K, and the fact that I *did it* with a 15 mile rolling hills bike ride in the middle, just feels so AMAZING! I want to kick this race’s butt next year!!

Coming up I have the Women Rock 10K on Saturday, very excited to see how I do on a 10K that doesn’t have a bike ride in the middle, haha! I’m going to do a few runs to see if I can’t improve my pace a bit this week.

I’m also thinking I’m going to see if I can earn enough volunteer credit with Team Ortho to upgrade my Monster Dash 5K to the 10 miler…I really think between now and the end of October I can do it!

Who else raced this weekend? How’d it go? What do you think of 10 mile races?

Bridesmaid's Toast April 2012

Look at these two photos….

Where am I?  What’s in my hand? How do I look, how do I feel outside?

How do I feel inside?

4 months ago, New Year’s Eve 2011….I’m in the back of the photo….I’m pretty darn happy…on the inside and outside….happier looking on the outside…concerned about how happy I look on the inside.  Holding a drink..okay its NYE gotta party a little…but worried about how much I should drink to not look like a party pooper but how little can I drink so I don’t overdo my calories….trying to weigh my options….fit in but try to do some of the right thing.  Happy to be hugged by my boyfriend, happy to be hidden in the back of the photo and have his arm around me, too.

Jump up a four months….to this weekend.  Trying on bridesmaid dresses for my best friend’s wedding. Where am I? IN THE FRONT OF THE EFFING PHOTO! I’m ELATED to be in a photo with my friends and to be toasting my best friend. I’m ecstatic on the outside and I’m pretty proud of myself, satisfied and happy on the inside, too. What’s in my hand? WATER….what was being offered to everyone at the dress fitting? Champagne, orange juice, mimosas and cookies. What was I happy to drink and it didn’t even phase me or worry me that I needed to “fit in”..WATER. Was I happy with the choice before, while and after I drank it? YES. Do I think its super fun, cool, and invigorating to be posing all funky with my WATER toasting my best friend in the FRONT of the picture. YES!

BAM!

That is all,
