I’m getting married!!!!!!

I have 15 lbs or so left to lose on Slimgenics, I’m running in a marathon relay on June 3rd and I’m getting married!

I’m not going to post all about getting married or making this a wedding blog or anything like that here…but, its a big life change and obviously affects me so here and there you guys will definitely hear about how my wedding plans tie in with my weight loss, future weight maintenance, running, food, etc etc!

Other than this amazing development in my life..

….I’m going to run 5 miles on Memorial Day with Kelly she brought my Minneapolis Marathon Relay team together! She is such an amazing friend and an inspiration in determination to achieve goals. She’s been training since 2011 for the Grandma’s Marathon this summer. I am so proud of her, Follow the link and check out her blog!

So I haven’t run since Sunday…I did 4 miles that day, it went really well. Then on Monday night I was tired, on Tuesday I did pilates in the morning and got too busy at home. Wednesday morning my hips were super tight and hurt, I stretched but no running. Wednesday night, still ouchie. Thursday morning dentist, Thursday night lots of stretching and yoga cuz I was still super tight.

Since I missed two training runs Smart Coach downgraded me back to 3 mile practice ones. A decent time for 6 miles on Jun 3 is still predicted in my training plan, but I really need to get my butt in gear and run EVERY training run no matter what!

I think one of the reasons I was so tired this week is cuz LAST week was a high protein extremely low carb week on Slimgenics and I got so sick of eating meat that I didn’t eat even when I was hungry and had more food available for the day. I ate all my allowed carb things and then stopped eating. So that 4 mile run really drained me, oops.

So, what’s been going on lately? Lots!

I’m officially down 35lbs which feels really good. I can see the definition that I’ve been working on for the last couple years of weight lifting actually starting to emerge from under the fat. I’m really excited to finally see that change. I’m still surprised when I put on a shirt and my tummy doesn’t stick out automatically. My default stature so to speak no longer has a tummy pooch, it’s so weird!
My boyfriend said to me last night that I’m probably a lot closer to bikini ready than I think I am. Woohoo!

Per our initial Slimgenics body type, height etc estimates I still have 25 lbs to go…but I dunno, I can see 15 coming off my butt and hips, perhaps the rest is just here and there and internal? My body from my true waist up is pretty good, my trouble area is the bad-donk-a-donk and it has a bit more to go for sure 😉

This last week I had two days of Slimgenics “detox” and boy, a good way to appreciate the main Slimgenics plan is to be on two days of a stricter version of it! Detox days include a whole grapefruit as breakfast, lettuce only salads with apple cider vinegar and a bit of dressing with lunch and dinner, chicken and parsley for lunch, fish and parsley for dinner and 2 cups of cucumber slices with apple cider vinegar as a snack, plus two of the low calorie thermogenic snacks. I wasn’t hungry, but I also didn’t have enough energy to run, so I had to skip a day. I definitely did feel like the detox cleared me out and I definitely had a nice weight loss whoosh the day after I finished detox.

One of my counselors did advice that Ryan and I eat beef more often and we can’t argue with that, yum! It is a limited food item so we have to space it out, but now we are definitely including steak or ground sirloin into our meal plans at least once a week if not twice!

I was having trouble with being hungry and even getting headaches on the days when I ran…and Slimgenics now allows 6 ozs of Greek yogurt your milk serving and not just as a protein. So, we figured out if I eat Greek yogurt as a small breakfast before I workout, replacing my daily milk, and then after my workout I have eggs and then my 2nd protein for dinner….I’m refueling my body a lot better than a protein bar or starches can and it has worked out really well for me! Yay more yogurt and protein!

Last weekend I took a big step and cleared out all of the clothes in my closet that are too big. All that stuff was actually pretty nice because I bought most of it last spring, summer and even fall of 2011 when I was at my highest weight ever. Those clothes were not just baggy on me but literally wouldn’t stay on….so time to admit I would never be back in them and to get them out! My closet is pretty empty now, but at least everything in it I can actually wear. I am slowly refilling it with clothing items I have had stored away that are starting to fit again which is exciting! But, I’m kind of at a stage right now where the saved clothes are about 1 or 2 sizes too small…I may have to buy a pair of work pants to help in between, I’m thinking Old Navy sale rack! But boy am I looking forward to wearing my Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Express pants and tops again soon!

Since my PR in running outside two weeks ago I have successfully done more 3 mile runs with an under 13 min mile average and now my standard run length is 3 miles. Woohoo, my practice runs are 5ks, that makes me feel pretty cool. My first 4 miler is coming up next week if I don’t miss any runs this week. I hope I can do them all!

Tomorrow, for the first time ever in my life, I will be trying on a formal dress that is not a plus size! I’m going to be picking my bridesmaid dress for my best friend’s wedding, I’m sooooo pumped! For the wedding and that I have more choices and I just don’t have to go with the “kinder” dress styles, we have a few to pick from.

I want to give a shout out to my marathon relay girls – Corryn, Amanda and Kelly! We are SO gonna rock the Minneapolis Marathon, I’m so lucky to know you girls and I truly value our friendship and the fact that we can sweat together, too! Woohoo!

Okay this has gotten long, so I will say next week is a Slimgenics biogenic week then fresh start weekend so we get bigger protein servings, no starches and smaller snacks M-F and then unlimited protein, only green veggies and no starches on the weekend. I’m actually looking forward to it for two reasons #1 This week leads to a nice weight loss whoosh the following week and #2 It comes just in time for sushi on Friday night…woohoo extra sushi and a BBQ for my sister’s bday on Sun…yessss more steak and chicken please!

On Saturday I had my first long run assignment from my Runner’s World Smart Coach program. As I’ve mentioned I’m running a 6 mile portion of the Minneapolis Marathon as part of a fabulous relay team of awesome girlfriends! I’m doing an eleven week 10k training plan.

So far on the plan I’m following the guidelines and pacing myself at an easy sustainable pace, but it seems I’m already getting used to the 2 miles and my 3 miles wasn’t too big of a stretch for the long run. I was prepared to run slower than on the treadmill cuz #1 outside seems more challenging #2 I hadn’t done a 3 mile training run yet and #3 my 5ks take me over 40 mins still.

But, I got myself out on Lake Calhoun and just thought, “Mer, it’s nice out here, you don’t have a goal pace, just a distance….you aren’t trying to keep up with anyone….just use this as an opportunity to enjoy the lake, relax your mind and just go…”

So, I did….and I ran the fastest I ever have for a sustained amount of time, with no stopping, no walking….just going…. 12:40 minute mile for 3 miles! Yaaaay MEEE!

Hi hi!

I’m halfway through my weightloss at 30 lbs down with another 30 to go.  I’m actually not halfway through my weeks at Slimgenics though! My program with them is 28 weeks..and I’m on week 10…but halfway done losing! Woohoo!

My jeans started really getting baggy and awful and so I used a Living Social deal for the House of Amore & Fede in Edina and bought two new pairs.  One pair fits now, yay no more saggy! I also bought a pair that is another size down 🙂  The 2nd pair I bought are Miss Me brand and Amore & Fede lets you exchange them back in for an in store discount if they are gently used.  So when I shrink out of those, I can go back and get more with another discount!

I just wanted to let you guys know about how I was doing and that I’m so happy to have new jeans! Oh, they are 2 sizes smaller than my previous jeans! YAAY!

I’m also training for a 10K because my next race is a 6 mile portion of the Minneapolis Marathon on June 3rd.  I’m using SmartCoach from Running World Magazine to plan out my training and I love that, too! Plus, per usual I’m lifting weights twice a week.

This morning I realized….I’m truly a changed (and still changing) person. Just one year ago, if I couldn’t have my workout at a certain time, or if it conflicted with time to get perfectly ready for work or go out with friends, or whatever, I wouldn’t workout or I’d cut a workout short. I’d choose being all prettied up and social time over time for taking care of my health.

Well, as of the last few weeks, and with further proof this morning, I now truly value my workouts and my fitness goals over at least the prettied up part. I still highly value social time…but a lot of my social time has turned into walks, runs and bike rides (more of those coming this summer!)

So, my AHA moment this morning? I have to leave the house at 7:45am to get to work at a comfortable time without worrying about traffic and other *things* that can get in the way. So, that would mean if I’m going to shower, I should be done working out at 7am if I want to dry my hair or 7:15am if I don’t. Well, things got a little frazzled this morning, I set my alarm a little too late to have time to eat breakfast, workout, shower, etc. I have a 10K training plan now and had to get in 2 miles, all at once, this morning…which takes about 26 minutes for me right now. So what got sacrificed? Mileage? Shower? Breakfast? Hehe…breakfast turned into buttered toast and a protein bar while I was throwing on running shorts and a sports bra and heading down to my treadmill. I proceeded to watch the clock as I got closer and closer to 7:30, then 7:35, then 7:40……and I watched my mileage get closer and closer to 2 miles….PHEW! DONE! 2 miles! ACK! 7:45am! I ran upstairs while pulling off my sweaty workout clothes. I ran into the bathroom….wiped myself down with a clean towel, wiped down my face with facial cleansing wipes, blew cool air through my hair with a hairdryer and threw it in a ponytail. Put on deoderant, sprayed myself with some body mist, ran upstairs and threw on some clothes (thank gosh for losing weight, I have lots of easy choices), ran back downstairs, put on some perfume and a bit of makeup and ran out the door. Yup, ponytail…sweaty hair…minimal makeup….no shower….and I went to work.

Guess what? I felt awesome ALL DAY. TOTALLY WORTH IT! Now, its not like I won’t take a shower before bed…but omigosh, I don’t have to be a pretty pretty princess anymore and it FEELS GOOD!

The only thing I could think about yesterday all day was how badly I wanted to go home and get outside and go running!  Yeah, I’m officially a running dork 🙂 I may not be super fast, but I can run and I love it!

Instead of thinking about that I have to run or have to make an exercise plan or have to get minutes in…all I thought was…its beautiful out, its not windy, its sunny…I want to put on my sneakers and hit the pavement!  Woohoo.

I ran a 5K this weekend and it was OK, I think with Slimgenics I kinda run out of juice when I hit the 30 minute mark, just cause I can’t super fuel myself up due to having to spread out my food through out the day…I don’t get more food just for exercising. But, its okay I still finished, with a few hills and lots of wind in 40 minutes…I’ll take that 🙂

I have another race on Saturday, the Get Lucky 7K…to celebrate St.  Patrick’s Day this year I’m running a 7K instead of drinking beers! Woohoo! 🙂  I am actually going to bring water with me for this race and cut it with a tiny bit of G2 (that’s the no calorie Gatorade), so I don’t completely poop out at the 40 minute mark when I have another 20 minutes probably left.

I was up at my weigh in today, but I’m right on track with plan..so I think its just that lovely monthly water retention…I weigh in 3x a week so I’m sure it will rectify itself by Friday when I weigh in again 🙂 I’m still like 26 lbs down, so that’s nothing to sneeze at 🙂 I hit my 25 lbs down mark and rewarded myself with a manicure 🙂

Ooh…also I put on a pair of my smaller PANTS from my “smaller stuff” bin…YAYAYA! Size 12 baby! I have already been able to wear smaller sized tops, but this is the first smaller sized pair of PANTS!!! I also had to stop wearing my original weigh in khakis cause they were like falling off me…so its a good thing I had a pair to replace them with!

Alright that’s what I got!

who tried to contact them three times!  No thanks to Icon Service for packing my treadmill with THE WRONG USER MANUAL.  No thanks to ProForm for repeatedly trying to get me to download the same, wrong user manual over and over.  But THANK YOU to the other people on w00t.com in the user forums that bought the treadmill, figured out it was the wrong manual and how to specifically ask for the right from from Icon Service and THANK YOU to the supervisor at Icon Service who emailed me the right manual.  And HUGE HUGE HUGE thanks to my boyfriend for putting it together!!!!!

I’m down 23.5 lbs officially with Slimgenics….we just got done with a “Biogenic Week” which is 5 days of very low carbs (like only about 200 calories worth a day)…but larger protein servings than normal. Also no club soda, no clear diet soda, no mustard…no extras…just protein, greens, 100 calorie snacks (2 a day).  Then after that we had two days (over the weekend) of Fresh Start days which is a lot like Atkins…as much green raw veggies, fat free dressing, oil, butter and protein as we could eat!  During this Biogenic Week…most people lose basically nothing….well I lost 3/4 lb….and Ryan LOST 4 lbs! That bastard! LOL!

I’ve also been able to dig out a few more tops from my “too small” bin which is awesome, yay for more choices! NSVs baby! I’m enjoying wearing one of my favorite going out shirts again that has a bit of sparkle!

Ryan and I are super into green monster shakes to get our veggies in!  Heck if I can drink a yummy shake with 2 servings of spinach in it, I’m all for it!  They are easy to make, pretty easy to clean up and TASTY.  Right now we make them with 2 cups of raw baby spinach leaves, a liquid like Diet Berry 7up or Diet Cherry 7up, and fruit like blueberries or strawberries. Sometimes when I want protein I use plain fat free greek yogurt. I also will put Stevia in there depending on the fruit or if I’m using greek yogurt.  Right now I can’t have bananas or peanut butter, but I can’t wait to incorporate those after Slimgenics.

Ground Turkey Casserole

 

For dinner tonight I made Ryan and I a casserole so to speak.  I sauteed together celery, green onion and ground turkey.  Then, I combine that in a casserole dish with creamy chicken noodle soup mix and chopped up mushrooms.  That’s all I did for today, but sometimes I also, at this point add in 1/2 cup cooked brown rice.  Then, I bake it for half an hour to solidify it up!  This time since I didn’t put the rice in, Ryan ate his with a piece of toast to scoop it up!

 

 

 

 

 

Then, with the other half of the package of ground turkey I made sloppy joe for lunches tomorrow with some chili sauce mix and red peppers mixed in to ground turkey!

So….other than that, my 5K class with the Running Room is over and we are finishing up with the 100% Irish for a Day 5K on Saturday (10th)!  Its over at Lake Harriet and I will be running the entire race at one of my slower paces because all this training I’ve been doing is ACTUALLY in preparation for the Get Lucky 7K on St. Patrick’s Day!  So excited for some running coming up!  I

I’m so happy that I found a program that works, its been one week so far…I’ve made three dinner recipes from my Slimgenics cook book, put together a week long meal plan that for the most part worked out well, but we did make last minute changes here and there. We found some recipes we absolutely love and some other meals that are going to no longer exist, hahaha!

I am learning that cooking meals at home, while taking some planning, is actually really satisfying. Eating meals that you took the time to prepare yourself makes the meal that much more tasty and filling. Its a weird concept, but so true!  We made two dishes this week that we both LOVED. Ryan’s favorite was Curried Chicken…I sauteed pieces of chicken breast then added sliced tomatoes and chopped green onions mixed together with yellow curry powder, parsley flakes and the Simgenics version of chicken noodle soup (any dry chicken noodle should work).  Oh man it was so good! My favorite meal this week was Hamburger Rice Casserole.  I browned ground sirloin with chopped mushrooms, chopped green onions and chopped celery. I poured that all into a baking dish and added in the Slimgenics version of dry creamy chicken noodle soup mix, with the water.  Baked it about 30 minutes until it all firmed up. Yum!

Some of the other foods we at this week were super good in season clementines, jazz apples, sauteed asparagus and “mashed potatoes.” Oh! Let me tell you about the potatoes!  We each used 1 serving of starch for this.  1 mashed together 1/2 baked potato (baked in the microwave) and 1/2 cup of cooked cauliflower each. (So 1 whole baked potato and 1 cup of cauliflower total) I mashed into it 2 TBS of light margarine and a bunch of garlic powder.  Soo good, skin on garlic mashed potatoes with added bulk of cauliflower was a pretty big serving and had hidden vegetables for the boyfriend 😉

So, what else went on this week? Oooh…yeah…I lost 7 lbs! Woohoo! I should lose 3-5 lbs every week, this week was more because its the first week and we did 3 days of “detox”, too…which is just at the beginning of the program.  I feel SO much better, too.  I don’t feel bloated, just “fat” but that’ll go away as the weeks go on, haha!  My skin is clearer from eating basic foods, no alcohol, no preservatives, lots of water. My mood is pretty boosted from just feeling good and healthy. The only time I’m kinda crabby is if I’m running late for dinner, but I’m hungry, haha!

I’m getting used to the amount of food, too.  Unlike Weight Watchers, where you get less points as you lose weight. On Slimgenics you eat the same amount of food the whole time, so obviously my body needs to get used to it.  Having the Herbal Slim appetite suppressants, the Slimgenics branded “Thermo Snacks” and “Thermo Boosts” to add in during my day and lots of water helps though 🙂 The only way you get more food is if you majorly increase your activity to like an hour or more a DAY…yeah..I exercise a lot but not that much 🙂

My exercise plans are going well, too. I’m still actively lifting 2x a week for 30 minutes with my trainers at LA Fitness and I’m doing a 5K running class with the Running Room. We meet on Saturdays for a lesson/tips for the 1st half hour and then the 2nd half of class we run together.  Our homework is doing two training runs during the week,which I’m also doing. So running 3x a week, plus maybe elliptical a 4th day and lifting. I say I’m a healthy active girl!  As the fat melts off my muscles will finally start showing!

My most difficult day this week was definitely Thursday. It was the 1st day of eating planned out foods on the regular plan (after 3 days of detox).  Also, Thursdays are my longest day…aka I get up at 6am…go lift weights and run, then work til 6pm, then finally get home.  Yup…long day. So long day and heavy exercise means HUNGRY!  I was feeling woozy as I drove home and called ahead to Ryan to have him start the oven and some of the cooking prep for the curried chicken.  I talked to a Slimgenics counselor about what happened on Friday and she was SUPER helpful. She reminded me that I can have a 3rd Thermo snack to replace my dairy as long as I use one of the higher calcium Thermo Snacks…we also structured a day out better where I have a bit more “bulk” in my AM/early afternoon meals so that I don’t feel so empty by late dinner time.  Another note on that day was that I could hardly finish my dinner..yep I went from STARVING to full pretty quickly….probably because of the late hour. So, dinners will be smaller on Thursdays with more snacks and filling stuff during the day to help stave off the extra hunger pangs from my workout, I think that makes sense!

Alright that has been quite the bit of babbling for today…I hope I shared enough info so you guys can get an idea of what I’m doing on the plan and how well its working!  I had a few questions through out the week about what it was and how I was doing!
