I was searching everywhere for my padded bike shorts. I went through every drawer, clothing bin and even cleaned out my closet. I didn’t find them inside and went to check if I had any more boxes in the garage. I did, they were even labeled “good exercise clothes to be saved til skinny.” Okay, that sounded kind of promising! I opened the box and I giggled with glee as I saw running shorts, wicking tops, warm up pants and sports bras! Nope, no bike shorts, but who cares, I am going to save tons of money now! My workout stuff is getting a bit big so I’m super pumped! I ran in the house and tried stuff on and the mediums all fit! Oh and I saw another box labeled “small, keep for later,” and I brought that in, too. The box had my cute Victoria’s Secret bras & bottoms as well as my assorted bikinis! Uuuh people….THEY FIT! Omigosh, I’m summer ready!

So….I never did find my bike shorts, I swear they are somewhere tho….but I saved lots of shopping dollars!!!!

….in my closet amd storage bins! Yeah baby!

This week I had to admit that another two pairs of pants were way too baggy. I know I shouldn’t complain….but that left me with just two pairs of work pants…and I thought I’d have to go shopping. I didn’t want to because I’ve still got about 25 lbs left….and a bunch of pants that I was sooo close to fitting in last week. Now, in actual lbs I lost 3 since last week….that doesn’t really sound like enough to be able to fit into pants in just a week! But….it was! I went from saying goodbye to two pairs of pants and hello to SEVEN MORE PAIRS OF PANTS!

Also, these pants are some of my favorites and they are average sized….12!! From some of my fav stores….Express, Ann Taylor Loft and NY & Co!

Onward and…downward? 🙂

So, what’s been going on lately? Lots!

I’m officially down 35lbs which feels really good. I can see the definition that I’ve been working on for the last couple years of weight lifting actually starting to emerge from under the fat. I’m really excited to finally see that change. I’m still surprised when I put on a shirt and my tummy doesn’t stick out automatically. My default stature so to speak no longer has a tummy pooch, it’s so weird!
My boyfriend said to me last night that I’m probably a lot closer to bikini ready than I think I am. Woohoo!

Per our initial Slimgenics body type, height etc estimates I still have 25 lbs to go…but I dunno, I can see 15 coming off my butt and hips, perhaps the rest is just here and there and internal? My body from my true waist up is pretty good, my trouble area is the bad-donk-a-donk and it has a bit more to go for sure 😉

This last week I had two days of Slimgenics “detox” and boy, a good way to appreciate the main Slimgenics plan is to be on two days of a stricter version of it! Detox days include a whole grapefruit as breakfast, lettuce only salads with apple cider vinegar and a bit of dressing with lunch and dinner, chicken and parsley for lunch, fish and parsley for dinner and 2 cups of cucumber slices with apple cider vinegar as a snack, plus two of the low calorie thermogenic snacks. I wasn’t hungry, but I also didn’t have enough energy to run, so I had to skip a day. I definitely did feel like the detox cleared me out and I definitely had a nice weight loss whoosh the day after I finished detox.

One of my counselors did advice that Ryan and I eat beef more often and we can’t argue with that, yum! It is a limited food item so we have to space it out, but now we are definitely including steak or ground sirloin into our meal plans at least once a week if not twice!

I was having trouble with being hungry and even getting headaches on the days when I ran…and Slimgenics now allows 6 ozs of Greek yogurt your milk serving and not just as a protein. So, we figured out if I eat Greek yogurt as a small breakfast before I workout, replacing my daily milk, and then after my workout I have eggs and then my 2nd protein for dinner….I’m refueling my body a lot better than a protein bar or starches can and it has worked out really well for me! Yay more yogurt and protein!

Last weekend I took a big step and cleared out all of the clothes in my closet that are too big. All that stuff was actually pretty nice because I bought most of it last spring, summer and even fall of 2011 when I was at my highest weight ever. Those clothes were not just baggy on me but literally wouldn’t stay on….so time to admit I would never be back in them and to get them out! My closet is pretty empty now, but at least everything in it I can actually wear. I am slowly refilling it with clothing items I have had stored away that are starting to fit again which is exciting! But, I’m kind of at a stage right now where the saved clothes are about 1 or 2 sizes too small…I may have to buy a pair of work pants to help in between, I’m thinking Old Navy sale rack! But boy am I looking forward to wearing my Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Express pants and tops again soon!

Since my PR in running outside two weeks ago I have successfully done more 3 mile runs with an under 13 min mile average and now my standard run length is 3 miles. Woohoo, my practice runs are 5ks, that makes me feel pretty cool. My first 4 miler is coming up next week if I don’t miss any runs this week. I hope I can do them all!

Tomorrow, for the first time ever in my life, I will be trying on a formal dress that is not a plus size! I’m going to be picking my bridesmaid dress for my best friend’s wedding, I’m sooooo pumped! For the wedding and that I have more choices and I just don’t have to go with the “kinder” dress styles, we have a few to pick from.

I want to give a shout out to my marathon relay girls – Corryn, Amanda and Kelly! We are SO gonna rock the Minneapolis Marathon, I’m so lucky to know you girls and I truly value our friendship and the fact that we can sweat together, too! Woohoo!

Okay this has gotten long, so I will say next week is a Slimgenics biogenic week then fresh start weekend so we get bigger protein servings, no starches and smaller snacks M-F and then unlimited protein, only green veggies and no starches on the weekend. I’m actually looking forward to it for two reasons #1 This week leads to a nice weight loss whoosh the following week and #2 It comes just in time for sushi on Friday night…woohoo extra sushi and a BBQ for my sister’s bday on Sun…yessss more steak and chicken please!

Hugs!

The only thing I could think about yesterday all day was how badly I wanted to go home and get outside and go running!  Yeah, I’m officially a running dork 🙂 I may not be super fast, but I can run and I love it!

Instead of thinking about that I have to run or have to make an exercise plan or have to get minutes in…all I thought was…its beautiful out, its not windy, its sunny…I want to put on my sneakers and hit the pavement!  Woohoo.

I ran a 5K this weekend and it was OK, I think with Slimgenics I kinda run out of juice when I hit the 30 minute mark, just cause I can’t super fuel myself up due to having to spread out my food through out the day…I don’t get more food just for exercising. But, its okay I still finished, with a few hills and lots of wind in 40 minutes…I’ll take that 🙂

I have another race on Saturday, the Get Lucky 7K…to celebrate St.  Patrick’s Day this year I’m running a 7K instead of drinking beers! Woohoo! 🙂  I am actually going to bring water with me for this race and cut it with a tiny bit of G2 (that’s the no calorie Gatorade), so I don’t completely poop out at the 40 minute mark when I have another 20 minutes probably left.

I was up at my weigh in today, but I’m right on track with plan..so I think its just that lovely monthly water retention…I weigh in 3x a week so I’m sure it will rectify itself by Friday when I weigh in again 🙂 I’m still like 26 lbs down, so that’s nothing to sneeze at 🙂 I hit my 25 lbs down mark and rewarded myself with a manicure 🙂

Ooh…also I put on a pair of my smaller PANTS from my “smaller stuff” bin…YAYAYA! Size 12 baby! I have already been able to wear smaller sized tops, but this is the first smaller sized pair of PANTS!!! I also had to stop wearing my original weigh in khakis cause they were like falling off me…so its a good thing I had a pair to replace them with!

Alright that’s what I got!

Peace out 🙂

I finally have a treadmill!!! No thanks to w00t.com for not providing my phone number to Fed Ex

Building the treadmill

who tried to contact them three times!  No thanks to Icon Service for packing my treadmill with THE WRONG USER MANUAL.  No thanks to ProForm for repeatedly trying to get me to download the same, wrong user manual over and over.  But THANK YOU to the other people on w00t.com in the user forums that bought the treadmill, figured out it was the wrong manual and how to specifically ask for the right from from Icon Service and THANK YOU to the supervisor at Icon Service who emailed me the right manual.  And HUGE HUGE HUGE thanks to my boyfriend for putting it together!!!!!

I’m down 23.5 lbs officially with Slimgenics….we just got done with a “Biogenic Week” which is 5 days of very low carbs (like only about 200 calories worth a day)…but larger protein servings than normal. Also no club soda, no clear diet soda, no mustard…no extras…just protein, greens, 100 calorie snacks (2 a day).  Then after that we had two days (over the weekend) of Fresh Start days which is a lot like Atkins…as much green raw veggies, fat free dressing, oil, butter and protein as we could eat!  During this Biogenic Week…most people lose basically nothing….well I lost 3/4 lb….and Ryan LOST 4 lbs! That bastard! LOL!

I’ve also been able to dig out a few more tops from my “too small” bin which is awesome, yay for more choices! NSVs baby! I’m enjoying wearing one of my favorite going out shirts again that has a bit of sparkle!

I had an AMAZING sashimi entree at Raku in Edina on Friday night with my girlfriends, check this out:

Tri Color Sashimi - Raku, Edina

Ryan and I are super into green monster shakes to get our veggies in!  Heck if I can drink a yummy shake with 2 servings of spinach in it, I’m all for it!  They are easy to make, pretty easy to clean up and TASTY.  Right now we make them with 2 cups of raw baby spinach leaves, a liquid like Diet Berry 7up or Diet Cherry 7up, and fruit like blueberries or strawberries. Sometimes when I want protein I use plain fat free greek yogurt. I also will put Stevia in there depending on the fruit or if I’m using greek yogurt.  Right now I can’t have bananas or peanut butter, but I can’t wait to incorporate those after Slimgenics.

Putting together a blueberry green monster shake

Ground Turkey Casserole

For dinner tonight I made Ryan and I a casserole so to speak.  I sauteed together celery, green onion and ground turkey.  Then, I combine that in a casserole dish with creamy chicken noodle soup mix and chopped up mushrooms.  That’s all I did for today, but sometimes I also, at this point add in 1/2 cup cooked brown rice.  Then, I bake it for half an hour to solidify it up!  This time since I didn’t put the rice in, Ryan ate his with a piece of toast to scoop it up!

Then, with the other half of the package of ground turkey I made sloppy joe for lunches tomorrow with some chili sauce mix and red peppers mixed in to ground turkey!

Sloppy Joe

So….other than that, my 5K class with the Running Room is over and we are finishing up with the 100% Irish for a Day 5K on Saturday (10th)!  Its over at Lake Harriet and I will be running the entire race at one of my slower paces because all this training I’ve been doing is ACTUALLY in preparation for the Get Lucky 7K on St. Patrick’s Day!  So excited for some running coming up!  I

That’s about it for me for now!

Phew….glad that week is over..long weekend coming up, will include some running, weight lifting, sleeping in, dinner with my parents, cleaning and some..and I love the sound of this..doing NOTHING

I swear Slimgenics makes the weeks go by even faster….with meal planning and cooking in between everything else life has to offer. But as the weeks go by the weight goes down, too. I know I’m going to lose every week as I follow the plan, but I must let the time pass and I must follow the plan daily for it to work. No way to speed it up or anything…so go time go!

This week I was able to wear 3 items out of my “small clothes” bin to work…it made me feel so good! I lost another 1 lb this week but I think that’s because of girly stuffs and my body is just shifting around, which has gotta happen when you are losing weight quickly.  17 lbs down baby!

I wanted to show you guys a new dinner I cooked up tonight.  It was so savory and tasty, but fast, too. All of 15 minutes from start to finish!

Curry Green Beans and Broiled Tilapia

Meal for two

Curry Green Beans:

  • 1 steam bag (about 4 cups) of cooked green beans, drained
  • 4 TBS of minced onion flakes (soaked in a bit of water)
  • 3/4 TBS of curry powder
  • dash of salt
  1. Spray a pan with cooking spray and saute the soaked onion flakes for a few minutes on their own
  2. Add the curry powder and saute together for about 3 minutes.
  3. Finally add the cooked green beans and a bit of salt. You might add a maximum of 2 TBS of water so it won’t burn, but you probably won’t need it.  Saute all together another 5 minutes.

Broiled Tilapia

  • 12 ozs (two 6ish oz filets) of tilapia (or any other white fish like orange roughy)
  • dash of paprika
  • dash of dill
  • dash of salt
  1. Spray a broiling pan with cooking spray.
  2. Place the filets on the pan and sprinkle with spices…I like more dill than paprika personally.
  3. Broil for about 6 minutes…check halfway and maybe turn the pan around.
  4. Fish should be flaky, but not dry or fried, white through out and no clear spots

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Let me know if you try the recipes and if you like them! For Slimgenics this dinner was 2 vegetable servings and 1 protein serving per peson

Hi folks!

Omigosh, besides my getting to know you I haven’t posted in awhile, that’s awful, so here’s my updates!

Weight/measurements:

I’m down 16 3/4 lbs!! I started Slimgenics on Jan 9th-ish so I’m into week 5, this is so awesome! I’m also completely out of Lane Bryant land. I can’t wear a stitch of clothing from there except a pair of khakis that I shrunk on purpose, heehee..and they are seriously giving me diaper butt, I refuse to buy new pants yet though!

This week I had two NSVs!  I pulled out a shirt that I haven’t been able to wear for 5 years..and even though 5 years ago I weighed about 15 lbs less, I’m way more fit now…and with the weight loss, it looked so awesome! I danced around the house..my boyfriend thought I was miss crazy, but he was so proud of me and so am I!  Also yesterday I was able to pull a shirt out of my “too small work clothes” bin…oooh yes yes yes! So happy!

Running:

I am halfway through my Running Room 5K class. We are doing 10 min x 1 min twice and then slowly adding on a 3rd set of running, this week its 5 mins.  I ran a bit over 2 miles on Saturday woohoo!

In general:

I kinda feel like my life is:  sleep, workout, work, make dinner, meal prep for the next day, sleep, workout..work…etc etc. But, the “meal prep” is shortening due to getting better on Sundays at making my weekly plan and getting faster at cooking and chopping, etc for the most part.  So I’m getting there 🙂  Our meals have been good and satisfying. My appetite is definitely shrinking, I find myself pushing food around my plate at dinner time…hah, I get such a limited amount of food that is so weird!

I’m finally feeling better, too..I felt like I was dealing with a cold or a headache or something for a whole month and now its all wearing off!

Well, I have to get dressed so I can go workout..hope everyone is doing well!

I ran the Santa Hustle 5K in Chicago along Lake Michigan last Saturday (3rd).  The weather was rainy and windy.  The grassy area with the tents/bag check/treats was muddy and slippery.  The Travel Channel was there filming it, but I’m not sure how much good stuff they got, just cuz everyone was wet and most people were wearing their jackets or something waterproof on top of the Santa technical shirts. Although there definitely was a sea of red hats and white beards (part of the race pack) that everyone was at least trying to wear!   I didn’t bring my phone with me to the race because it was so wet and yucky I was afraid it’d be toast.  My friend Jill brought hers, but kept it zipped up in her pocket for the same reason.

The race started out about 10 minutes late, my guess was that the Travel Channel was getting all prepped to film the beginning of the race.  The crowd was HUGE…when the race did start, I didn’t get to the start clock until well into a minute after the start, but luckily, this was a chip time race. This was the first time I’ve ever run a chip timed race, so that’s pretty cool.

The running path was narrow once we got out of the parking lot….the racers bottlenecked on the muddy/wet/full of potholes lake path. It was either run on the crowded path or run on the sides in the muddy grass…yuck, my shoes were wet within the first mile.

The concept was great…run along for a mile with a bunch of other Santas, then get some holiday  candy! Then run another mile and get some hot chocolate (which I NEVER saw), then towards the end of the race get some Christmas cookies!  They had enough water, candy and cookies for everyone…but yeah, eating something while you’re also trying to run…bad idea…like I said fun concept, not really great for trying to get in a good run. I folded up my cup of M&Ms and saved the for the end, I also shoved a couple Christmas cookies in my pockets for the end.

My race chip time was 45 minutes…that is the most horribly I have ever run a 5K, but on the other hand….crowds, rain, wind, bottlenecks, mud, multiple food/water stops…yeah..unless a runner was up in the front of the whole group and didn’t stop for anything, no one got a good time on this. There were runners, not walkers, but runners still coming in after the 60 minute mark, we could see them from the refreshment/tent area.

Oh, so another perk of this race was an “after party” at Cubby Bear’s by Wrigley Field. It was advertised for all runners, it was part of the original Santa Hustle sign up, even our race #s had a special tag on it to get into the after party, it was racers only.   Well, we got there, well before the party was going to be over…and they RAN OUT OF FOOD!  They said, “sorry folks, once this buffet is empty, there is no more, but feel free to order from our regular menu! Though its not free”  Umm yeah thanks Cubby Bear and Adrenaline Race Management, BAD PLANNING! You really pissed off us racers. I should have gone right back to my hotel, I was already cold, wet and tired!

Alright…so, after getting back to the hotel and taking a hot shower, my friend and I started off the awesome part of our day and night in Chicago…so the trip wasn’t a bust, just the race…I won’t be going back. Even if its not wet/rainy in future years, I don’t expect it to be any more organized than what happened this year.

If you want to see me, here are some pics I ended up in, at the end of the race, oh umm, they posted those reindeer pics with everyone, that has nothing to do with me!

Santa Hustle 5K Pics

What’s next:

The 2011 Resolution Run!  I really slacked after my 5K on Labor Day….I improved from my 1st 5K on Memorial Day to my 2nd one on Labor Day…and then, well…the weather, illness and general running laziness took over.  Not this time!  I’m going to kick some arse at the Resolution Run…to end my 2011 off right! I am doing Couch 2 5K over again, but I’m doing it for the interval timing, with the guy coming on my podcast and telling me when to go fast and when to slow down…I can be accountable for intervals.  I’m doing Couch to 5K with a much faster pace to build up my time. I’m kicking my butt, I’m still slow, but I hope to secure myself at a time that is LESS THAN a 13:30 minute mile by the end of the month….I am trying to do this by running 3x a week…I really hope I can! I want to finish a 5K in less than 38 minutes.

I think I can, I think I can!

Staying on Track Update:

Just a quick update, I’m logging into Daily Mile to log my runs, I’m logging into MyFitnessPal to log my food (I often forget to hit the “Complete my Diary” button), but I’m there logging!  I’m staying on track during the holidays!

NSV:

I’ve been having to clip my “underthings” on a tighter hook these last couple weeks, so I reached into the back of my unmentionables drawer for a smaller size.  Smaller around, not the cup size…well, it fit perfectly!  YAY! I’m down a chest size, but not a cup size! w0ot w00t!

How are you guys out there doing so far during the holidays? Are you managing the extra temptations?

Any wintery runs coming up?

I’m so happy for an NSV during the holidays, tell me about yours! Any clothing, shopping, #DontEatTheTreat triumphs?

Baggy butt

Ryan was walking behind me into the restaurant to meet our friends tonight.  He said, “Are you wearing those to work? Where’s your butt? Its time to ditch them!”

I bought these size 16 Lane Bryant slacks, oh about 3 months ago to replace my other grey slacks I had bought about a year ago.  I had Ryan take this shot so he could show me how baggy my pants were, its hilarious!

Things like this, they keep me going.  I put these pants in my “share with friends” pile and wondered if I had some work pants in my “too small” bin to replace them. I only have a few pairs of work pants these days because of my changing sizes and wanting to keep my budget in tact!

Fortunately, I have some size 16 Lee slacks and some size 14 Ann Taylor Loft slacks that now fit me! Whee!!! I love shopping in my own closet! I wore the “new” pants in front of Ryan and said, “I think I found my butt!” He agreed, hahaha!

This goes right along with the other day my coworker walking up behind me and saying, “Meredith! Where are you disappearing to?” She asked me how much weight I have lost. I told her that it was less than 10 lbs….but…I’ve gone down two sizes since January!  She said she was proud of me and to keep up the good work!!! YAAAY!

So, not having a beer that I was craving at our dinner out tonight was worth it because  if I keep habits up like that…soon I will be in lots of 14s, then 12s, then 10….maybe 8??  I can do this!!

NSVs rock!  Anyone out there have a good one to share!
